Why Lose Weight – 5 reasons

Most people start a weight loss plan for aesthetic reasons to look good. But beyond that, excess weight is literally a menace to your health. Besides making you fat, large amounts of fatty deposits can cause havoc on your body’s internal systems.

By Indian government obesity guidelines, People who are Body Mass Index (BMI) of 25 or greater are clinically termed obese & have a much higher risk for many major illnesses. This is due to a genetic Indian risk of diabetes & heart disease. For most of us, obesity sounds like something foreign, but to be over a BMI of 25, is for example, anyone with a height of 5 feet and weighing over 58.2 kg, 5 feet 6 inches & weighing over 70.5 kg, or 6 feet tall and weighing over 83.6 kg.

Check the table below to see if you fall into the obese category. The height is in inches, the weight is in lbs.

Surprisingly, many people fall into the high risk category. Here are few reasons why you definitely have to lose weight:

Save Your Heart: The higher your weight, the more blood your heart has to pump to other organs and higher fat levels, more fats & toxins will be carried with the circulation. Research shows that the incidence of heart disease in obese people is higher as compared to people with the right weight. Recently, the American Heart Association started promoting healthy weight as a way to decrease the risk of heart disease. Obese people have higher cholesterol levels and lower levels of HDL.

Control your Blood Sugar: Abdominal obesity leads to development of insulin resistance and thus your chances of getting diabetes increases. Did you know that almost 80 percent of people diagnosed with diabetes are obese? Diabetes can be managed and damage stopped, if you manage to keep your weight under control. Due to our genetic tendency towards belly fat accumulation, India is projected to be a diabetes capital by 2050. A diabetic diet plan can help get down to a healthy weight and prevent India.

Lower Stress Levels: A recent study has revealed that obese people are more likely to develop chronic depression and anxiety. So reduce weight to live longer and ease depression.

Protect your Bones: Extra weight increases the chances of osteoarthritis by placing extra pressure on weight bearing bones like your ankles and knees. Losing weight will help your lower back, hips and spine to feel less pressure. If you have lower back pain, try these exercises to strengthen lower back muscles.

Sleep Tight: If you are snoring heavily at night then you reducing your weight might help. Research has shown sleep apnea is a common condition closely associated with being overweight. This causes short intervals periods between breathing during sleep, leading to snoring.

Studies have linked higher BMI with higher incidence of cancer, imbalance of thyroid, polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), and other conditions that contribute to infertility.

And last but not the least, fitter people have better sex life!! So get on a weight loss plan and get fit now!
