Shooting-bow Pose (Akarna-dhanurasana)
Sanskrit word “karna” means ear and the prefix “a” means near to or towards, “Dhanur” means bow-shaped, curved or bent. Because of the obvious appearance of the posture this asana is also known as the shooting bow posture.

How to perform the Shooting-bow Pose (Akarna-dhanurasana)
- Start this asana with stretching both legs together straight out in front. Keeping back and head straight and shoulders in level, place your hands, palms down, flat on top of thighs then breathe in deeply.
- Breathe out, then reach down and loop forefinger of right hand around big toe of right foot and grasp left foot with your left hand.
- Breathe in and pull back your right foot placing big toe next to right ear. Sit as straight as possible, holding the same posture for duration you breathe in.
- Now breathe out and return back to normal position of step #1 and again do the same on opposite side.
Durations/Repetitions of the Shooting-bow Pose (Akarna-dhanurasana)
The minimum duration of holding this posture is 30 seconds which can be extended to up to several minutes. Repetition of this asana should be twice with each leg.

Akarna-dhanurasana is a difficulty level 6 asana recommended for intermediate yoga practitioner.
