Fetus Pose (Garbhasana)
The Sanskrit word “Garbh” means fetus. While performing this asana the pose resembles that of a human fetus in the womb. So this asana is called Garbhasana.

Benefits of the Fetus Pose (Garbhasana):
Garbhasana (Fetus Pose) helps to cure diseases like colic pain, flatulence, enteritis, chronic fever, constipation, etc. Garbhasana keeps the abdominal organs trim and cures gas-trouble and increases the digestion-power. Garbhasana provides sufficient exercises to abdominal organs, breast and joints of arms.
How to perform the Fetus Pose (Garbhasana):
- Start the asana with sitting in Padmasana, now take your hands between thighs and ankle to your ears and hold them.
- While breathing in and out try to rest your back against the wall and pull crossed legs upwards by bending at hip.
- Use your hands to lift the legs in the beginning and maintain this posture for few seconds.
- Release the posture slowly while keeping your body balanced.
Duration and repetition of the Fetus Pose (Garbhasana):
Hold this asana for a shorter duration from five to ten seconds initially and can be extended to one minute gradually.

Garbhasana (Fetus Pose) is a difficulty level 7 asana recommended for advanced level yoga practitioner.
