Rasam Soup Recipe

Ingredients For Rasam Powder:
Coriander seeds: 1 tsp
Cumin seeds: 1 tsp
Asafetida: 1/4 tsp
Red chillis: 2-3
Black pepper: 1/4 tsp
Mustard seeds: 1/4 tsp
Ingredients for Rasam:
Toor dal: 1 cup
Tamarind: a lime sized ball
Curry leaves: a sprig.
Coriander leaves: 1 tbsp, chopped.
Salt: to taste.
Water: 3-4 cups.
Ingredients for seasoning:
Vegetable oil: 1 tsp
Mustard seeds: 1 tsp
Cumin seeds: 1 tsp
Asafoetida: 1 pinch
Turmeric powder: 1/4 teaspoon
Method:
1. Roast the ingredients of rasam powder on low flame.
2. Grind to fine powder.
3. Soak tamarind in warm water for 15 minutes and get pulp using 1 cup of water.
4. Cook Toor dal in 2 cups of water till it is soft.
5. In a deep pan combine 1 cup water, ground rasam powder, tamarind pulp and boil.
6. Mash the cooked dal and add to the mixture.
7. Boil for 5 minutes then add salt and more water if required and again boil for 5 minutes.
8. Add chopped coriander leaves.
9. In a sauce pan, heat oil and add mustard and cumin seeds.
10. When they stop crackling, add asafetida, turmeric powder, curry leaves.
11. Add to the ready rasam and cover the rasam pot.
